The Austin House was built in 1959 by its original owners, Mr. and Mrs. Immos. The state of Oregon had recently completed Hwy 7 through to its junction with Hwy 26, where at the time, the small town of Bates was in its heyday. The USFS issued a “Special Use Permit” which enabled the business to be built and established within the boundary of the National Forest. It was a great asset to the community, and continues to be an excellent stopover for weary travelers and hungry tourists.

The cafe has an authentic, natural beauty and rustic charm. Our beautiful two-piece mahogany bar was built in Chicago in 1864 and moved here in 1959.
